Why I Added This to My Portfolio

This project demonstrates my ability to design and develop a complete eLearning module using Articulate Storyline 360—from initial concept through interaction design and final implementation. It highlights how I integrated AI-assisted research, custom motion graphics, accessibility principles, and personal storytelling into a short, high-impact microlearning experience.

Project Overview

This interactive training teaches users how to recognize and respond to phishing attempts. The inspiration came from two real incidents: a scam targeting my friend and a suspicious message I personally received while at a baseball game. Built entirely in Storyline 360, the module uses a ~5-slide microlearning format that blends storytelling, design, and behavior-driven prompts to leave a lasting impression in under 3 minutes.

Phishing happens fast—and often when people least expect it.

One day I was at a Nationals baseball game when I got a text from someone claiming to be my company's new CEO. The message felt urgent, and because our company is small, it didn’t seem that odd—until I checked with a few coworkers and confirmed no one else had received anything. That’s when I flagged it to IT, and they confirmed it was a phishing attempt. This is a very serious (and all to common) issue—especially in the government/military/banking industries.

Another time, my friend got a phone call from someone claiming she missed jury duty. They used panic tactics, sent over fake documents, and pressured her to act fast. We even went to the bank. While she was inside, I was on the phone with the county sheriff—who confirmed the scam.

These moments made something clear: most people don’t know what to do in that situation. And most training on this topic is long, dry, and forgettable.

From Idea to Action

This wasn’t an assignment. It was a decision.
After two real phishing scares—one personal, one professional—I knew I needed to do something. Not just talk about cybersecurity, but build something useful. And build it fast.

So I took three weekends and challenged myself:
Could I create something short, visual, story-driven, and impactful—using as many features in Storyline 360 that I wanted to master?

How I Built It

To bring this to life, I:

Conducted rapid research using peer-reviewed studies, as well as anecdotal evidence via forums such as: Reddit, Quora, and real-world case stories
Designed a custom color theme using accessibility research and color theory
Used adult learning theory to build emotionally relevant learning moments
Storyboarded the entire flow in PowerPoint before jumping into Storyline

Then I built every element from scratch:

Animated glowing particles and motion backgrounds
Custom progress tracker using a top-right slider
Freeform quiz with logic-based feedback
Button sets, layers, variables, transitions, hover states—all created manually

Yes. This was a side project—but every detail mattered.
